We Are Just Numbers

Book Review   "We Are Just Numbers" by Amrita D. Mitter This novel talks in direct terms of the difficult struggles that women face in their lives. It shows how these difficulties have lasting effects and shape the lives that women live. The experiences come so close and intimate that they shed light on the agony that many women suffer in silence. The author never dramatizes or dramatizes. Rather, she narrates her stories thoughtfully by depicting the ways society continues to confine and dutifully consider women in myriad manners. The characters are portrayed as being relatable, real, and strong, even in their struggles. What remains in mind is how the intimate narratives represent larger social concerns. Amrita D. Mitter's prose makes one reflect on the unspoken distress that women deal with courageously. It is a remarkable work of prose that beckons us to observe and listen more sensitively to women's tales.
