Rohan Kailasam's "Wastra" is a gripping crime thriller experienced in an urban afterlife. It combines mystery and investigative journalism in Mumbai’s underbelly. At the beginning of the tale, a addict to heroin gets attacked at Churchgate station by some dudes, killing several of them while leaving him barely alive. It is reported to a journalist who had no intentions of covering it initially. Her investigations lead her to a dilapidated bar in Colaba that houses an employee who is drunk and tells her a convoluted story. The backdrop for this narrative comprises of several historical and geographical circumstances as Tamil Tigers are involved, Iran-Iraq war happened alongside communal riots in Bombay during 1990s. This book is designed for speed with many unforeseen occurrences all through making it interesting never wanting to put down the book. It’s full of suspenseful moments and lots of things happening thus making it very captivating. The idea of "Wastra" is completely new in journalism as a whole. An investigative reporter with sharp instincts, Shalini unearths layers of mystery and danger. It is characterized by a fascinating mix of crime, mystery and historical fiction.
