Book Review:
"Redemption" is a novel by Chaitali Hatiskar which beautifully and realistically narrates the lives of Arth and Seher, two beings who have survived heartbreak and loss yet manage to find warmth in each other. Their journey is about love, forgiveness and the very meaning of redemption. Nonetheless, with the ongoing occurrence of events, they often plunge into extreme situations where upon confronting their deepest fears, distressing choices are made, which pose a risk of endangerment to the deepening bond that they are rapidly cultivating.
Evocative and emotional, that is how Hatiskar writes and her narration is filled with the pain and joy of ecstatic proportions. Her prose is poetic yet simple enough to touch the reader's heart in a profound way. And if I tell you about pace it’s neither slow nor fast and the narrative has action then reflective state alternately. Such rhythm is beneficial for the readers who will not be in a hurry to follow the events to come.
I love this conversation of Seher when she was unable to watch Arth ruin himself while sitting on the fringes and started the conversation:
“What are you doing?”
Seher tried to initiate a conversation with him.
“Pruning.” Arth pointed at the dead undergrowth.
“You have to cut the dead branches.
Do you see these twigs? They need to go.”
“Why?”
“If we don’t cut them, we won’t get new flowers.”
“Okay.”
A bit surprised by the lack of an elaborate answer, Arth eyed her inquiringly. She smiled knowingly.
And here are my two favourite lines:
1) "When you stop chasing things, they stop mattering to you "
2) "Darkness often leads to the stars "
'Redemption' is an interesting book for those readers who like stories with love, treatment and new opportunities. This book is worthy of 4.4 stars of 5 in my assessment thanks to the poetic way of the writer.
