Book Review:
"Beneath the Veneer" by Sreya Sarkar is a gripping novel that delves into the lives of six female protagonists: Gunjan, Falguni, Asha, Farzeen, Keshri, and Rani. The story unfolds in a newly germinated town, 'Rangvihar', where people come to live a hustle-free life with the hope of starting afresh, so the female protagonists also come there, to escape from their chaos to live a hustle-free life there. When they started to live there, they befriended one another, and together they created a safety net for each other.
As time goes by, they discover that Rangvihar, the town known for its elegance and charm, has hidden evil beneath it. When Falguni's adolescent daughter goes missing, they find out about the sinister side of the town: that many young girls are disappearing from the town, and the number increasing day by day. To protect themselves and the victim, they decided to delve deeper and discover the hidden truth. The deeper they delve, the more unexpectedlly they are drawn to the mystery. Despite their varing background they joined hands and their joint efforts lead them to success.
Overall, it is an engrossing story of female resilience. The story specifically based on the theme - human trafficking and the insidious flesh trade industry. Language is simple and Dialogues have a depth of emotion. The author beautifully portrayed struggle, fear and triumphs of every characters and this is a suspenseful tale with strong female characters, so if you like to read suspense novel then this book is for you.
